Mangroove Art Week Launches at Playa Panama’s El Mangroove Hotel with MÍRAME Fine Art Showcasing Over 30 Works by Costa Rica’s Leading Artists

El Mangroove, Playa Panama’s flagship hotel under Marriott’s Autograph Collection, will launch Mangroove Art Week on March 26, marking the start of a new art-focused initiative aimed at hotel guests and private residence owners. In partnership with MÍRAME Fine Art, the event presents a curated route through more than 30 works by some of Costa Rica’s most significant contemporary artists, including Leonardo Ureña, Eliecer Rodriguez, Emilia Cantor, and Daniela Marten Rothe.

The project turns the hotel’s spaces into a temporary exhibition site, with paintings, photography, and textiles placed throughout guest-accessible areas. The works will be shown until April 8, offering visitors a chance to engage with a cross-section of Costa Rica’s current art scene during one of the busiest travel periods of the year.

Rather than isolating art in a single gallery setting, the event positions it in lounges, hallways, courtyards, and quiet corners—establishing an informal path that encourages both repeat viewing and accidental discovery. “There’s a casual elegance to the way guests experience the works,” says Belinda Seppings, Co-Founder of MÍRAME Fine Art. “It’s a way to connect art with daily movement, without the pressure of traditional viewing rooms.”

The timing of Mangroove Art Week coincides with the hotel’s renewed focus on promoting Autograph Collection private residences, which occupy part of the property. As part of the launch, buyers who close on a residence during the event will receive a $10,000 voucher for MÍRAME Fine Art—an initiative that positions art as a core element of the luxury ownership experience, rather than a decorative afterthought.

Georgia O'Keeffe inspired floral and erotic painting with pinks, purple, green and blue.

El Mangroove is not alone in making this shift. A growing number of hospitality and residential brands are looking toward the art world to offer added value, cultural capital, and a point of differentiation in a crowded market.

MÍRAME Fine Art, which opened in 2023, has positioned itself as a platform between the country’s emerging artists and new audiences, local and international. The gallery’s founders have been vocal about the need for more commercial and institutional support for artists working in Costa Rica today, and this collaboration with El Mangroove reflects that ambition.

For visitors, the project offers an immersive contemporary art experience, introducing a slice of Costa Rica’s contemporary art scene within an unexpected context, without requiring travellers to adjust their itineraries or leave the property.

Mangroove Art Week runs from March 27 to April 8, 2025.
