We're thrilled to announce MÍRAME's collaboration with the beautiful Andaz Peninsula Papagayo Resort over the Christmas week. From 22 - 29 December, we will be presenting work by over 15 artists in one of the resort's studio spaces. From curated displays throughout the week, to artist talks and workshops, this unique event will celebrate Costa Rican contemporary art. Costa Rica boasts a dynamic contemporary art scene, which is gaining increased attention from international audiences. While the country’s breathtaking landscapes are a key source of inspiration for many artists, Costa Rican art extends far beyond these natural beauties. The country’s art scene is marked by a diverse range of artistic expressions. Local artists are creating high-calibre, thought-provoking works that address complex themes, from identity and environment to socio-political issues. From the bustling streets of San José to the quieter coastal towns, Costa Rica hosts a variety of galleries, exhibitions, and cultural events that highlight the emerging talent shaping the country's artistic identity. Jean Pierre Guillermet | Entre dos Horizontes: De Autóctono a Universal, Museum of Costa Rican Art, San José "Entre dos Horizontes: De Autóctono a Universal" is a heartfelt exhibition organised by Costa Rican geometric abstract artist Carolina Guillermet to honour the legacy of her grandfather, Jean-Pierre Guillermet, who passed away a few years ago. With deep love and respect, Carolina has loaned several of Jean-Pierre’s works to the Museum of Costa Rican Art, offering the public a chance to experience his unique contributions to the art world. This exhibition celebrates the preservation of the Jean Pierre Guillermet artistic legacy blending his personal vision with broader universal themes. The exhibition is on through January 2025. Stay tuned for information on guided tours to explore this meaningful collection! ng>Joaquín Rodríguez del Paso | “Quincho” Museum of Costa Rican Art, San José The Museum of Costa Rican Art presents “Quincho”, a posthumous exhibition honouring the master Joaquín Rodríguez del Paso. This groundbreaking display offers a rare glimpse into the artist's private world, revealing a deeply personal side of his work that highlights his connection with the landscape and his love for nature. Born in Puebla in 1961 and raised in Costa Rica, Joaquín Rodríguez del Paso was a versatile artist, excelling in painting, sculpture, and video art. With prestigious awards such as the Áncora and the Aquileo J. Echeverría, he leaves behind an invaluable artistic legacy for the country. RASTROS Y EXISTENCIA: Un Palimpsesto | ABRA Espacio, San José Espacio presents "RASTROS Y EXISTENCIA: Un Palimpsesto", featuring works by 20 Costa Rican artists. This not-for-profit, independent, artist-run space—housed in a distinctive 1970s building—provides a platform for creative experimentation and collaboration. The exhibition includes contributions from Karla Herencia, Fabian Monge, Allegra Pacheco, and Guillermo Tovar Carazo, represented by MÍRAME Fine Art. Showcasing a variety of mediums and perspectives, the show highlights the vibrancy of Costa Rica’s contemporary art scene. "40 Years of Spanish Cooperation in Costa Rica" celebrates four decades of collaborative cultural and social initiatives between Spain and Costa Rica. Hosted by the Centro Cultural de España (CCE) in San José, the exhibition features works from 18 Costa Rican artists, including MÍRAME Fine Art’s Aimée Joaristi, Karla Herencia, and Luciano Goizueta. Each artist’s work reflects themes from the UN Sustainable Development Goals, covering issues like environmental conservation, gender equality, and cultural preservation. Curated by Ricardo Ramón Jarne and Iris Lam Chen, the exhibition highlights the role of art in fostering sustainable development and community awareness. Jesús Mejía, a celebrated Costa Rican artist recognised with the 2023 Francisco Amighetti National Visual Arts Award and recently awarded third place at the 2024 CROMA Biennial, presents his latest exhibition, "Bitácora Del Sueño Eterno" (Diary of the Eternal Dream), at Casa Jiménez Sancho in Cartago. Known for blending Catholic iconography with social commentary, Mejía shifts from societal themes to a deeply personal focus in this new series. Inspired by his experiences as a caregiver for his grandmother, who suffered from Alzheimer’s, Mejía explores the physical and emotional weight of caregiving, as well as the unspoken challenges faced by his mother in her role as a caregiver.
