MÍRAME | 2025 Review

From launching Andaz Art Week Costa Rica to exhibiting at Future Fair NYC, we reflect on a transformative year connecting Costa Rican artists with global collectors.

As 2025 draws to a close, I find myself looking back at a year that exceeded expectations we had when we first opened the doors to our inaugural Andaz Art Week Costa Rica December 2024.

We began the year closing our first pop-up exhibition at the Andaz Peninsula Papagayo, which was a nerve-wracking but rewarding experience. We had transformed Studio 3, a hotel event space overlooking Culebra Bay, into a proper gallery space, complete with custom-built walls. We showed painting, ceramics, tapestries and textile works from a selection of artists including Adrián Arguedas, Katrin Aason, Eliecer Rodriguez and Alonso Durán. The response from Peninsula residents and international hotel guests was overwhelming. People wanted to talk about Costa Rican contemporary art. They wanted to understand the artists and the stories behind the work. That initial success gave us the confidence to continue.

By April, we were back at the Andaz for our second iteration during Semana Santa. This time, we refined our approach, and the installation, and building on the success of the first edition helped place artwork in private collections in Costa Rica, the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom. We also introduced the work of new artists, such as Isaac Loría, Lorena Villalobos and the photography of Leonardo Ureña.

Now, as we prepare for our third edition from December 26th through January 2nd, the Andaz Art Week Costa Rica has become a fixture on the Peninsula's cultural calendar.

In March, we launched Mangroove Art Week at the Mangroove hotel in Playa Panama, creating an art trail throughout the hotel property. It was a different model, being more immersive and more integrated with the guest experience. We installed artworks by Daniela Marten Rothe and Miguel Hernández Bastos (see below image!). This taught us new ways to present work outside traditional gallery walls.

Perhaps our most ambitious undertaking came in May when we participated in Future Fair NYC during Frieze Week. Taking a selection of works by Fabian Monge and Carolina Guillermet to New York during the city's most competitive art week felt like stepping into the deep end. The fair was intense. Collectors, curators, gallerists and advisors from around the world converged on one space. The conversations we had about the Costa Rican and Latin American art scene, and the visibility we gained for our artists were invaluable. We're already planning our return.

On the corporate side, we've been working with Newmont Mining Company to develop the art collection for their new global headquarters in Ultrapark II, San José's free trade zone. Integrating Costa Rican artists into an international corporate collection that spans continents has been incredibly satisfying work. Our artists can stand alongside their peers from anywhere in the world.

Our partnership with Pacificio in Playas del Coco has opened another avenue, offering exclusive art packages to Na Umi residents. Meanwhile, our online platform continues to connect us with clients we've never met in person: collectors in Europe, North America and beyond who discover our artists digitally and trust us to ship their acquisitions across oceans.

None of this would be possible without the artists who place their confidence in us. They allow us to represent their work, to advocate for them, to push for higher visibility and better opportunities. That trust is something we don't take lightly.

As we move into 2026, we're filled with optimism. There's still work to do (always!) but the foundation we've built this year feels solid, and we are thrilled to continue supporting other galleries in Costa Rica by including their exhibition information in our weekly What's On blog posts and email newsletter. Together, we can all drive forward with continued momentum.

To those who acquired work this year, visited an exhibition, or engaged with our programme: thank you! To the artists who make this work possible: thank you! And if you're reading this without yet having experienced Costa Rican contemporary art firsthand...come find us in 2026!

Here's to 2026 and another year of growth and genuine connection through art.
