EMDR IX is part of Alessandra Sequeira’s Enraizada – Donde el Miedo se Desvanece series, presented at the Calderón Guardia Museum, San José in 2026 — canvases made during and following her engagement with EMDR therapy, each one a record of personal psychological rupture and repair.
Her practice incorporates a variety of materials to create branching organic forms, mapping trauma, repair, and the slow reorganisation of the nervous system. Here, she’s used charcoal, Chinese ink, acrylic ink and cotton thread on canvas, creating branching forms rising from the base in black and deep red. The red threads carry the weight of the title — life as resignification of colour, the wound held and contemplated. It is ink and thread artwork of uncommon emotional directness.
Sequeira is a prominent Costa Rican artist with an extensive exhibition record spanning Costa Rica, Europe and Latin America.
