In his painting, Ramírez Chaves turns to Chirripó National Park, portraying its 3,821-metre summit, called Cerro Chirripó, as a physical landmark and a symbolic site. The canvas portrays the climb’s suspense and exhilaration, asking us to imagine themselves on the path toward Costa Rica’s highest point.
Influenced by artistic giants such as Joaquín Soroya, Rembrandt, and Diego Velásquez, Ramírez Chaves brings figures and landscapes to life with an intimacy born from personal reflection. His subjects, ranging from adults and children to the female nude, are painted with a keen eye for detail.
Adopting a mathematical approach, Ramírez Chaves explores the revered “Golden Ratio,” a mathematical equation that underpins natural patterns and has long been used by artists to create balanced compositions of order and symmetry. Through meticulous attention to proportion, he reveals the innate perfection found in the rhythms of nature.
