Description
In Ritmos de la Naturaleza, Lorena Villalobos builds a pale, fractured world in acrylic — translucent forms layered in ice-blue and silver, suggestions of shape accumulating across the canvas.
The natural world here is broken into fragments, the same forms recurring at different scales. The work belongs to a strong tradition of abstract landscape painting in Costa Rica.
Art historian and former Costa Rican Minister of Culture Carlos Francisco Echeverría has described her work as among the most significant to have emerged from the region in recent times. She is among twenty-six artists named as Modern and Contemporary Masters in Central American Modernism (Ford and Snider, 2018).
Framing not included.
