Description

Carlos Fernández’s abstract rodent painting, Tepescuintle, translates the natural beauty of Santa Ana, San José, into an evocative visual language on canvas.

Nestled in the mountains of Santa Ana, San José, Fernández finds inspiration in the lush landscape around the farm where he lives, as well as the visual language of renowned artists, such as Julie Mehretu and Joseph Beuys. This abstract rodent painting Fernández mixes soil into the acrylic paint and is a homage to the rugged terrain that surrounds Fernández’s mountain sanctuary.

Each artwork is the result of a careful process of observation and experimentation, echoing Fernández’s deep connection to his surroundings. Through painting, drawing exercises, photography, and performance art, Fernández’s creative journey mirrors the organic growth of a garden, nourished by the landscapes that inspire him.
