Juan Carlos Camacho’s watercolours reflect his fascination with the interplay between art and architecture. His studies in drawing, painting, and architecture at the University of Costa Rica have shaped his view of these disciplines as complementary.
Camacho’s watercolours contain strong contrasts of light and shadow, with dynamic backgrounds painted in fast, expressive strokes that sometimes verge on abstraction. From these backdrops, he creates intricate structures that evoke human presence and experiences.
El Portón, meaning “The Gate,” is a serene countryside gate painting. A simple gate is the focal point with surrounding green foliage and sandy coloured fields evoking a serene and tranquil atmosphere.
