Juan Carlos Camacho’s watercolours reflect his fascination with the interplay between art and architecture. His studies in drawing, painting, and architecture at the University of Costa Rica have shaped his view of these disciplines as complementary.
Camacho uses strong contrasts of light and shadow, with dynamic backgrounds painted in fast, expressive strokes that sometimes verge on abstraction. From these backdrops, he creates intricate structures that evoke human presence and experiences.
Whether depicting landscapes, homes, agricultural buildings, or weathered fences, Camacho depicts Costa Rican scenes, exploring the connection between human life and landscapes.
The rustic watercolour painting “Tierra Blanco,” meaning “white earth”, features a house with a white roof set against a backdrop of foliage. In the foreground, a white path can be seen with tree shadows cast across it, highlighting the interplay of light and shadow in this rustic watercolour painting.
