Description

As an artist, teacher, and consultant, Guillermet brings a multifaceted perspective to her work, injecting her acrylic paintings with a distinctive focus on geometric applications of colour. Influenced by her background in architecture, Guillermet explores volumes and space to create geometric urban landscape paintings, being greatly inspired by cities, and the dynamic use of colour within them. Guided by the philosophies of colour theorists like Josef Albers, she rejects the isolation of colour, emphasising its contextual nature. Guillermet transforms Latin America’s neighourhoods into volumetric expressions with irregular shapes and shades.

Carolina’s grandmother is renowned abstract artist Lola Fernández and as such, her paintings celebrate this artistic lineage. In her tapestries, Guillermet echoes the influence of Anni Albers, employing the tufting technique to create highly textural surfaces. With a nod to her grandfather’s expertise in tapestries, she combines allergen-free synthetic wool with latex on rubberised backs, offering versatility in installation.

For Guillermet and her geometric abstraction, such as this urban landscape painting, colour transcends mere visual aesthetics and becomes a conduit for emotional impact. With each brushstroke and tuft, she weaves together architectural influences and a rich palette, asking us to experience colour as a visceral sensation. In her own words, “Colour is a feeling I prefer. We feel colour; it can be as simple as that.”
