Description

Sylvia Laks’ portraits are drawn from diverse themes and influences, including the human body, identity, memory, landscape, and spirituality. Working with a variety of materials, from charcoal and pastel drawings to oil painting on linen, Laks invites us to explore a myriad of mythical and mystical worlds from the realms of her imagination.

Demiurgo (Demiurge) presents an eye in the clouds, a nod to the being responsible for the creation of the universe. The eye sheds tears that cascade down the length of the canvas, creating an unsettling image. The eye’s gaze is direct and intense, staring out at the viewer with an almost accusatory quality.

The ethereal setting of the clouds juxtaposed with the striking imagery of the eye and tears creates a powerful sense of existential contemplation. Laks captures the sense of a higher power observing and judging the world, while the tears suggest a complex, emotional response to its creation. This demiurge painting invites viewers to reflect on themes of creation, responsibility, and the human condition, provoking a deep and lasting impact.

This demiurge painting is an example of Laks’s ability to blend realism with elements of the mystical and symbolic provides viewer with thought-provoking experiences.
