Description
Introducing “Duende (Garden Spirit)”, an elf painting by Guillermo Tovar Carazo.
With over twenty-five years of exploration into esoteric realms, Tovar Carazo uses painting as a conduit to transcend the mundane, weaving spiritual and hermetic elements into his compositions. Drawing from childhood memories of 1980s fantasy movies like “Gremlins” and “Ghostbusters,” he imbues his paintings with a sense of wonder and mystery, where dragons, crystals, and otherworldly creatures come to life in vivid detail.
This juxtaposition of whimsy and unease creates an atmosphere of tension, prompting contemplation of the delicate balance between daydreams, nightmares, and the realms of make-believe. Each painting contains hidden details-from watchful eyeballs nestled among foliage to rocks morphing into limbs.
“Duende (Garden Spirit)”, an elf painting, features a fantastical creature—half-human, half-bird—wears an old-fashioned bonnet on its head, which is comprised of the plants and flowers he frequently sees in Guanacaste when he is exploring with this children.
