Description
El Proceso is part of Rossella Matamoros’s 2026 series Paradojas Luminosas — acrylic and collage on canvas, two metres wide, a mass of black ink and paint exploding outward from the centre. At the heart of the composition, a small red circle and a spiral form anchor everything around them. This is large scale abstract painting where something small and luminous holds a composition built on chaos — the paradox the series is named for, made visible.
Matamoros has participated in the Venice Biennale twice — in 2003 and 2017 — and was awarded the 2020 Francisco Amighetti National Prize, Costa Rica’s most prestigious artistic recognition. She has exhibited in over 150 exhibitions across Costa Rica, the United States, Italy, Spain, France, Japan, Mexico and beyond.
