EMDR I

Description

EMDR I is part of Alessandra Sequeira’s Enraizada – Donde el Miedo se Desvanece series, presented at the Calderón Guardia Museum, San José in 2026 — ochres and inks on canvas with textile intervention, a perfect teal circle enclosing a dense mass of black branching forms that thin toward the top, the composition reading as an eye, an iris, a portal.

The teal is built from a mineral sourced from the mountains of Peru, giving the circle a luminosity particular to that material alone. For Sequeira, the iris is a map of epigenetic memory — the black of the eye a guide into an unknown neuronal space, referencing the deep past of her own practice.

Sequeira is among the most distinctive voices in Costa Rican mixed media art, with an extensive exhibition record spanning Costa Rica, Europe and Latin America.
