EMDR II

Description

EMDR II is part of Alessandra Sequeira’s Enraizada – Donde el Miedo se Desvanece series, presented at the Calderón Guardia Museum, San José in 2026. The surface shows the intricate and complex array of materials Sequeira used — mixed media and natural minerals, with acrylic and textile intervention, a dense mass of branching forms radiating outward from the centre against a warm sandy ground.

The composition makes it look like something organice, something alive — a cell, a root system, an organism caught in the act of growing. The deep teal and blue of the halo are built from natural minerals mixed with sea salt, the material a direct homage to the tear, to salt water and the energy of the sea. Threads are raised from the canvas, spatters of ink caught mid-movement, layer upon layer of material built up over time. Here, water becomes the agent of healing — the sea as rehabilitation, the wound slowly closing.

Sequeira is recognised for her contemporary textile painting in Costa Rica and internationally, with an extensive exhibition record spanning Costa Rica, Europe and Latin America.
