Description

Karla Herencia’s work addresses environmental degradation, inspired by the coastal landscapes of Puntarenas. She collects discarded plastic and industrial debris, inspiring paintings, sculptures and mixed-media installations that reflect on the complex relationship between human invention and nature.

Influenced by the shifting oceanic and tectonic dynamics of her environment, Herencia explores themes of the body, territory, and environmental crisis.

Herencia’s Peruvian heritage influences her sensitivity to primitive materials and ritualistic aesthetics. Her installations combine socio-political critique with emotional responses to environmental issues.

“No Cae, Se Suelta,” a cosmic freefall painting depicts a man falling through a central void, surrounded by cosmic shards of crystal-like surfaces. The deep purples, blues, and blacks fracture around him, evoking a sense of surrender rather than a chaotic fall. The title suggests a deliberate release, as if the figure is embracing the descent rather than being pulled down by it. This cosmic freefall painting beautifully conveys themes of letting go, transformation, and the unknown.
