Drawing inspiration from modern masters such as Gauguin and Picasso, Gonzalez infuses his artworks with Cubist elements and earthy tones, creating vibrant and emotive compositions, as seen here in this Malentendido painting, which depicts a scene of misunderstanding between two abstract figures — a man and a woman — engaged in dispute. She pulls away while he reaches out, illustrating the complexities of human interaction.
Gonzalez approached this Malentendido painting with his typical spontaneity, allowing the colours and forms to unfold organically. He notes, “the colours present themselves; they are not planned. They flow through me.”
