Description

Introducing “Windswept II”, an abstract windswept painting by Alonso Durán exploring mathematics and art.

Born in the central Costa Rican town of Grecia, Durán combines his background in Fine Art and Engineering to create abstract works shaped by both structure and instinct. In “Windswept II”, he uses ideas from mathematics, especially calculus and Topology, to build flowing, layered compositions.

Curving forms suggest the movement of waves or landscapes, while geometric patterns bring a sense of order. His colour choices—mostly warm, earthy tones with bright accents—add contrast and rhythm to each piece.

Though grounded in mathematical thinking, Durán’s work isn’t rigid. His brushwork brings energy and spontaneity, creating scenes that feel controlled, as well as open-ended. Each piece, such as this abstract windswept painting, captures a moment of motion while offering a glimpse into a world shaped by logic and chance.

Durán’s practice combines formal inquiry with his personal response to his environment, bringing together analytical structures and the unpredictability of material.
