Description
Introducing “Bañistas #3”, a Costa Rica oil painting by visual artist Adrián Arguedas. This painting presents patterns of human behaviour as young children play around a swimming pool, celebrating childhood innocence and the carefree joy of summers spent outside.
Arguedas typically explores the relationship between humanity and the Costa Rican environment. He is known for his figurative work that embraces the spirit of masquerade. Growing up in Barva de Heredia near San José, a town known for its mask parades, Arguedas explores the various guises people adopt. Even if physical masks are not depicted, he presents archetypes and patterns of human behaviour.
Through his oil paintings, Arguedas encourages us to scrutinise our multifaceted human experience. Even when Arguedas is not painting literal masks, he captures the way individuals project their identities, affirming that even “your face is a mask”.
