Description

Gonzalez, known for his experimental approach, paints a diverse range of subjects. His work spans from nostalgic childhood memories to intimate domestic scenes with his children, still life depictions in the home, and even animals like the bull, a powerful symbol in Costa Rican culture.

Inspired by modern masters like Gauguin and Picasso, he infuses Cubist elements and earthy tones with vibrant hues to evoke emotions in his subjects. Embracing spontaneity, Gonzalez allows colours and forms to unfold naturally, saying, “the colours present themselves; they flow through me.”

This expressive figurative painting, titled “Barrenderas”, depicts two women with brooms engaged in sweeping or cleaning activities, their elongated forms and cubist, angular faces creating dynamic movement and energy.

Against an abstract background, this expressive figurative painting captures the essence of daily life with a blend of abstraction and figurative elements, enhanced by their enigmatic facial expressions.
