Susan Adams draws inspiration from Costa Rica’s landscape and its people, specifically within the Guanacaste province, which has been her home for over 25 years.
As an observer of daily life and culture, Adams immortalises a diverse array of subjects, from cowboys and dancers to bull rings and traditional customs upheld by the eclectic spectrum of local people. Additionally, she captures the essence of Costa Rica’s natural beauty, including its beaches, animals, and tropical life.
In this Jinete painting (Jinete meaning ‘horse rider’ in English), Adams presents the heart of the Guanacaste countryside and the timeless spirit of the cowboy who rides on a grey horse. The cowboy takes centre stage in the composition against a backdrop of a rustic stable building. The horse is captured mid-trot, its powerful stride kicking up dust as it traverses the rugged terrain.
Clad in traditional dress, the cowboy exudes an air of rugged determination, caught in a moment of focused intensity. Set against the backdrop of Guanacaste, a region renowned for its rich cowboy culture, Adams’ Jinete painting exudes authenticity and tradition.
