Description

Sylvia Laks’ portraits are drawn from diverse themes and influences, including the human body, identity, memory, landscape, and spirituality. Working with a variety of materials, from charcoal and pastel drawings to oil painting on linen, Laks invites us to explore a myriad of mythical and mystical worlds from the realms of her imagination.

Redes Societies is a surreal and uncanny social networks painting. The composition features a cluster of arms reaching upward, each hand trying to grasp at what seem to be bubbles floating out of a bowl. The hands appear to be in a state of yearning, their actions symbolic of the human desire to connect and engage within the complex web of social interactions. The ethereal bubbles drifting out of the bowl suggest the elusive and transient nature of these connections.

Through this evocative visual metaphor, the social networks painting invites viewers to contemplate the intricacies and often intangible aspects of modern social networks, blending the real and the abstract in a thought-provoking manner.

Laks’s ability to blend realism with elements of the mystical and symbolic provides viewer with thought-provoking experiences. She focuses on the psychological expression of her characters, tapping into their emotions and inviting you to glimpse into their souls, and unravel their curious narratives.
