Description

Leonardo Ureña, combining his expertise in graphic design with photography, captures spaces and emotions for a more mindful photographic experience. He skillfully manipulates light and composition like a painter, prioritising atmosphere and mood over specific subjects in both natural landscapes and urban settings.

When documenting Costa Rica’s landscapes, Ureña captures beaches, skies, plant and wildlife, focusing on intricate details to render them abstract and offering a fresh perspective beyond traditional representations of colour and texture.

In this photograph of a hillside during the Guanacaste dry season, the golden-yellow grasses contrast against the vibrant blue ocean visible through the V-shaped opening in the landscape. The scene captures the striking juxtaposition between the arid, sun-baked terrain of the Guanacaste dry season, and the refreshing expanse of the distant ocean.
