Description

This hammerhead shark photograph, taken by Edwar Herreno in 2008, is remarkable because you no longer see this number of hammerheads sharks due to declining populations. Herreno considers himself hugely fortunate to capture such a rare hammerhead shark photograph; diving beneath the sharks and looking up at them is a dream come true for all divers.

Herreno was diving at a depth of 27 meters at a seamount discovered by Jacques Cousteau in the 1980s, located three miles from Coco Island. This site offered opportunities to see hammerhead sharks, making it a sought-after destination for photographers worldwide.
