Cownose rays. Bat Island, Costa Rica.

On numerous visits to Bat Island, Edwar Herreno sought to explore ray photography from a unique perspective. While others focused on the allure of Bull Sharks, Edwar was drawn to the vibrant life teeming on the island’s less explored side. It was ray photography that Herreno wanted to capture amidst the colourful fish and marine life.

On one memorable day, he witnessed an awe-inspiring spectacle as thousands of rays gracefully glided through the depths, from 25 metres / 82 feet, right up to the surface. Employing a fish-eye lens to encompass the vast expanse of marine life, This ray photography from award-winning photographer Herreno encapsulates the sheer abundance and beauty of this underwater haven.
