Efecto borde a geometric abstraction by Carolina Guillermet
Immerse yourself in the vibrant world of Carolina Guillermet’s Geometric Abstraction called Efecto borde, a captivating exploration of color and form. As an artist, teacher, and consultant, Guillermet brings a multifaceted perspective to her work, infusing her acrylic paintings with a distinctive focus on geometric applications of color.
Influenced by her background in architecture, Guillermet delves into the interplay of volumes and space, drawing inspiration from urban landscapes and the dynamic use of color within cityscapes. Guided by the philosophies of color theorists like Josef Albers, she rejects the isolation of color, emphasizing its contextual nature.
Drawing from her familial legacy—her grandfather, renowned abstract artist Lola Fernández—Guillermet’s paintings are a testament to her lineage. Transforming San José neighborhoods into volumetric expressions, she captures the essence of her surroundings with irregular shapes and shades.
In her tapestries, Guillermet echoes the influence of Anni Albers, employing the tufting technique to create highly textural surfaces. With a nod to her grandfather’s expertise in tapestries, she combines allergen-free synthetic wool with latex on rubberized backs, offering versatility in installation.
For Guillermet, color transcends mere visual aesthetics—it serves as a conduit for emotional impact. With each brushstroke and tuft, she weaves together architectural influences and a rich palette, inviting viewers to experience color as a visceral sensation. In her own words, “Color is a feeling I prefer. We feel color; it can be as simple as that.”
