Edwar Herreno used a special super-macro lens to capture this goby fish photograph in Playas del Coco. A goby fish is the size of a grain of rice.
Despite its minuscule size, the goby fish appears imposing in the photograph, thanks to Herreno’s expert technique. The image showcases the fish’s bright, translucent colours, including large bright red eyes and little bright blue spots on its head, which stand out against the dark background.
Herreno discovered the fish hiding in coral in the waters off Playas del Coco in Costa Rica. In the foreground of the image, the fish’s eggs almost appear as decoration, adding an intricate and delicate element to the composition.
The photo’s dark setting allows the vibrant hues of the fish and its eggs to shine through, creating a striking visual contrast. This goby fish photograph is a unique and intimate portrayal that emphasises the delicate beauty and vivid colouration of the fish, and its reproductive cycle.
